P 0405 Bank 1 cat converter code on a Ram 2500

Hello:

I have a complete new exhaust system including manifolds, pipes, both cats, flowmaster exhaust and all 4 new O2 sensors on my 2006 Ram2500 4x4 with the 5.7 l gas.

I was getting bank 1 forward O2 sensor codes until all of this work was done.
Now I am getting P0405 codes for a non existant EGR system since neither Ram 2500 or 3500 trucks have this system installed.

I have verified this, and sure enuff , there is a flat cover plate on the front of the head under the alternator.

So what gives? Truck is from Rhode Island(yankeeville).. and had 8 years and70K miles before I purchased it.Needless to say it had lots of exposure to salt and chemicals.

I have been diligently restoring it, and replacing rusty and substandard parts, exhaust, brakes. hoses, belts, pans, and lines.

I am retired , live in the Deep South, and only use this truck for lumber runs at Home Desparate and to pull my 6.500 LB toy hauler..so I have plenty of time to chase these little glitches..

All advice gratefully appreciated..:icon_biggrin:

Additional info

When I bought the truck in 2014, the dodge dealer recommended two software updates@$25.00 each which I told them to do.

Are there different updates for 1500 and 2500/3500. Did they install the wrong updates which might lead the computer to assume that EGR is installed?

I don't know if this is possible?

Just trying to eliminate possibilities to help narrow down the choices

thanks

Did you reset the pcm, after the 02 sensors were replaced?

service bulletin?

Just Ask..which I have used before provided me with a service bulletin number dealing specifically with this issue..My local Dodge dealer flashed my system twice at my cost without installing this fix

So I will leave resetting the PCM to them after I express my displeasure tomorrow morning

I am retired and got nuthin planned:icon_deadhorse:

No need to reset PCM after a PCM update, it automatically reboots.

For your other post (O2 sensor code P0402) just install a $55 non-fouler on the post cat sensor and call it a day. I can't believe neither of your "experts" suggested it. There is a tutorial in the DIY section.

As for the P0405, my guess is they went too new on the update, as later 2500 Hemi has an EGR...

Please Hammer Sir..

I looked at all 6 pages of the DIY forum and could not find that thread..I did find O2 sensor cleaning and O2 sensor leaking?

I know what a spark plug non fouler does.I assume..(uh oh) that moving the sensor away from the exhaust pipe does something to fool the sensor?

Will it make the code go away?

Any info will be much appreciated

OK.. found he thread

how will this help keep my P0420 codes from triggering the CEL?

Thanks much

It's there, I made the DIY myself in April 2008.

It works because just as with no cats, with hi flows, there is not enough temp difference between upstream and downstream cats. The non-fouler moves the sensor farther from the exhaust flow and allows for more difference in the reading.

I've used these dozens of times and even done this for a couple members/former members of this forum.
