Its time for 100k tuneup. I don't know when it was last tuned up because I got the truck at close to 70k miles and it runs great so i didn't bother worrying about it. I have an 05 ram with 5.7 hemi. I know about the spark plugs of course but should I change the wires? Any sensors or anything need to be changed? I don't know what the part is called that sits right over the plugs but do i need to change them? Thanks any info helps.

 

Here is a link to a free owners manual which contains the factory recommended maintenance schedule. If you dont know the maintenance history of the vehicle, I suggest going through all the recomended maintenance suggested at the mileage intervals stated in the schedule and decide what you think would be critical to the operation of the truck. I'd be looking at a trans filter/fluid change, possibly diffferential (and transfer case if 4x4) services along with whatever else is recommended at 100k.

I just finished changing the sparkplugs on my 06... I did and say, do several cylinders at a time so you can have beer and use the truck before returning to the the next set of cylinders. 2 plugs per cylinder= more beer. The trouble is the 2 cylinders around the brake booster. Several guys have commented about having several different 3/8 extension available. There is no room, so do have short extensions available.

Also, I don't believe your truck has "wires". It has a coil packs, supporting 2 plugs per cylinder.

I believe the '05 and '06 have different systems due to the addition of MDS.

 

03-05 hemi have coil packs with wires, 06 and up have the single coil for both plugs. Has nothing to do with MDS because the 05 300 and Magnum 5.7's had the wires like the trucks. It was an emissions thing that they eventually decided wasn't worth the non-standardization. The SRT hemis never had the wires nor MDS.

 

If it was me I'd go all out at 100,000 miles, especially if I didn't have all service records? All fluids, diff, transmission drain and refill, coolant mix witha bottle of liquid ice to lube the pump, egr, pcv, plugs, wires, oil and all filters, clean the throttle body...

 

Roger that. I knew there was a difference, and 2006 was the intro of MDS. Thought there might have been a correlation there. Thanks for the info.
