Refill Coolant in One Go?
Hello Dodge owners,
I am writing to ask about refilling the coolant in a 2008 Cummins motor. I had the water pump go bad (leaking) and so drained the coolant and replaced the pump. I have a 5 gallon bucket of coolant ready to go into the motor. Can I just create a siphon and siphon the whole 5 gallons back in one go (in the radiator) or do I have to go slowly? Have the engine running etc for air pockets? I unscrewed the vent on top of the engine that has a sticker on it suggesting it be unscrewed before refilling the motor. On a side note, the truck only has 40k on the motor and the original Cummins water pump was shot. I could reach in and manually "wobble" the pump pulley side to side. Kind of surprising for an OEM part. I'm also thinking the bad bearing in the pump could explain a mystery squeal I would get under heavy load towing. Whenever I was towing a trailer, I would intermittently get a slight squeal from the motor. What do you guys think? Thanks for your help. |
