2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7L shudder at takeoff

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7L and discovered something I hope someone can help with. It's got 135k miles on original motor and transmission. I have discovered that after I drive it for a few miles (it's even more distinguishable right after I get off the freeway) I can feel a shudder/sticking vibration in the drivetrain when I start lightly accelerating from a stop that. The truck shifts very smoothly with no transmission slipping, and doesn't have any other concerns I have discovered with the drivetrain. Any ideas where to start?

Thanks!

Tough to diagnose over Internet. Few things come to mind. Transmission slip can sometimes cause what your describing. How does the fluid look . ? Red or brown ?
Next would be a brake caliper hanging up or seized up. After driving a brake stuck on would overheat the brake rotor and could cause a shudder. Usually with this you would have a burning smell.
Another good possibility would be a bad or seized universal joint in the driveshaft.

if its happening under light acceleration but is gone when you accelerate hard; probably the tcc. Make sure you are using the correct trans fluid and check to see if a pcm update is available to address tcc application.

I just had this happen to my 2005 ram hemi, and i took it to a dealer thinking it was a tranny problem but it turned out to be a broken plastic clip in the rear end. the dealer told me that there is 2 clips that where recalls so they fixed it and replace everything under recall. im not saying thats what is going on with yours but it would happen the same for mine. mabey a good place to start. good luck

Thank you guys for all of your input. I'll drop it off at the dealer next week and keep you posted. Any other opinions?
