2008 ram 1500 4.7 oil issues
Het ya'll. I have a 2008 Ram 1500 4.7L. The motor was replaced back in October of 2015 at 90,050 miles. It is now 2.5 y/o and has 30,500 miles on it and is burning about a quart a month to a month and a half. What could be causing it to do this on a 2.5 y/o motor? Its not leaking anywhere that I can see.

It is always the valve stem seals on the 4.7s i have never needed to replace rings even at 200k let it warm up all the way let it idle for a bit hit the gas see if you get any smoke if you do you need stem seals. It is also a easy job can be done with the heads on the truck no need to take them off you would be surprised how many jeeps and doges i have worked on where people thought the engine was shot and it was the stem seals.

How hard is it to change the stem seals with the heads still on the truck?

if your mechanically inclined and know what your doing then its about a day job you need a compressor and the rocker arm removal tool but if your not getting smoke out your exhaust when you hit the gas then thats not it check your valve cover gaskets
