Spacers and/or adaptors. Opinions?
Happy New Year to all you 3rd Gen Guys, and all Ram owners! Got a question: Do any of you have experience with spacers or adapters on the 1500s with studs? I want to put on bigger tires than the stock ones - probably 33” - and consider adding some space. But I have studs. What are your thoughts/opinions? |
Not a fan of spacers. Better option is to simply get wheels that are wide enough for your tires, and have the correct backspacing so there is minimal rub.

What do you mean by having studs? Most vehicles do have wheel studs and lug nuts, except for some European vehicles that have lug bolts. Wheel spacers are fine as long as they are the correct ones for you application and are properly installed. However I would try to get wheels with less offset instead.

I run 34" tires. 275/65R20 summer, 285/75R17 winter. No spacers, no lifts or mods. Front suspension on mine is the torsion bar type. Simply turned them up a 1/2" in overall truck height. I do not believe you need spacers nor do I recommend them. Just choose tires responsibly and within the capabilities of the truck. (Cooper AT3, ATm-RF10)

Wheels with less offset. Frankly I hadn't even thought of that. Not a bad idea.

Spacers and even adapters change some of the geometric aspects and handling, wear on wheel bearings, and change the load leverage on hub studs (they can break). MHO is avoid them unless you are able to compensate safely for this engineering change
