Clear Coat FLAKING off roof, can I go to a Dodge Dealer?

Hello everyone, I have an issue with the roof of my truck. I own a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 ST with the Regular Cab and Short Bed. The clearcoat on the roof is FLAKING off. It's like when you get a sunburn and the dry skin flakes off. I know my truck is old, but is there anyway I could get Dodge to pitch in and cover this issue somehow? Thank you!

X2. Good getting any manufacturer of anything to pitch in on repairing something 17 years old.

Ya that is what I figured considering it is 17 years old... Maaco can paint it for like $200 so I may just do that.

Ya I mean the place has 4.7 stars out of five so thats a good sign, I honestly might see if they'll do it cheaper...

I had them paint my sons car years ago. It was a $350 special. It was a paint job that looked good on a rainy night with a cheap flashlight. But, it was "new paint" when we went to sell it. Just don't expect too much with a few hundred dollar paint job.

Do you think if i used a can of touch up spray and let it dry, then used a can of clear coat it would help at all? I would imagine I would have to wetsand as well...

Basically, your paint is suffering from UV damage. (ultraviolet light, or 'sunshine'. :) ) It all hangs out in the same place, it's just the stuff at the leading edges take the most abuse, so, that's where it starts flaking off first. You will likely need to scrub ALL the old clearcoat off, and then do the touchup thing, otherwise, if you just spray the areas that are bad now, in a few weeks/months, it will just start flaking someplace else.

Yah the clearcoat is practically dead. Gonna have to get a few more quotes from shops and see what I'll do...
