Is this where I should refill my freon?
 

Hey everyone, I was just wondering if this is the right place to add freon as I think mine might be low. Thanks!

I added some freon to my 04 1500, I do not remember it being that close to the firewall.

R134 refrigerant. Not freon. Freon was phased out years ago. There should be 2 ports. The smaller of the 2 is where you refill.

Where did you fill up you refrigerant at? I would assume it's the low pressure line right?

that is the low pressure line....low pressure side has the small fitting but the big hose. most aftermarket refill kits fill on the low side. you can't mix it up as the low and high side connectors are different...it won't connect to the wrong line.

vacuum the system, add 1 oz of pag oil, charge the system...weight your cans before and after...weight is the only accurate charge method. static pressure is temp dependant.

if your missing caps...get them. they keep dirt out and are a secondary seal.

So was my picture the correct spot to fill it up? I didn't see the cap which threw me off.

I had to replace the high side service port on my Cadillac Escalade today. Attached is the photo I took to show the counter person at the parts store. Keep in mind, this is NOT a Dodge. It does show the high and low side connectors. The low side has the cap still on. On my '02, the low side port is near the receiver/dryer (big black round thing near the firewall). This is the only one that aftermarket charging tools will fit.

Alas, I haven't been here for a while. I had abdominal surgery and am just now getting around and feeling human. (Hint, getting old is NOT for wimps!) One thing about the R-134 systems is the fitting are different sizes so you can't hook them up backwards.All the recharge kits on the arket use the low side port, regardless of what vehicle you have.

Two different size valves. The refrigerant kit will only, fit on I believe the smaller of the two valves.
