What am I looking at? 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI 5.7 1/2 ton https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...2d12469a26.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/dodgefo...533e2bd9da.jpg |
I don't know anything about mechanical stuff. I was hoping that at least someone on these forums would know what this part is and if it is safe to drive the 60 miles it is to the nearest mechanic.

Doesn't look twisted. Just looks like the boot got kinked. It happens.
As long as the inner and outer CV joints are still one unit, and you don't have any odd clicking noises while turning, it's fine. |

If you watch the top video it does have a loud clicking noise when I turn the rod. When driving it makes an extremely loud clicking noise. When turning the vehicle it is no worse than when driving straight. |
I see pics, but, no video.

Okay, I was just told that it looks like a boot is twisted on the half shaft (axle?) and that it twisted out. Not safe to drive. Can anybody confirm this information, please?

I was going to say it's a non-issue, then I read your post about the loud clicking noise. Go ahead and change the axle then.
