Cracking and squeaking noise only when cornering.

Cheers everyone,

I have a new problem on my car.
Today when driving to work I had to take a S-corner a little faster.
On the first change of direction I heard a cracking and squeaking noise.
I can replicate the noise when going left-right-left etc. a little harder.
Also when braking a little harder I can also hear a squeaking noise, but not as loud as when cornering.
I replaced nearly everything on the front suspension earlier this year.
Would a squeaky anti roll bar bush make these noises? It is very noticeable in the cabin so I'm assuming it must be something directly bolted to the chassis like the ARB bushes.
The car is 2004 RAM 1500 4x4 HEMI
Thanks for your help everyone!

Were upper/lower ball joints replaced?

GrossmeisterB 04-19-2024 10:45 AM

Yes, both sides are new. Only thing that is not new are the lower control arm bushings.
I don't have any squeaks when going over e.g. a speed bump. Only when cornering.

Maybe in your steering U-joints. Can you duplicate it sitting still turning wheel to wheel?

The noise does not appear when turning the wheel when stationary. It also only occurs a brief moment after I turned the wheel and the suspension moves. So I bet it has something to do with the roll bar or something.

Just got back from checking but can't find anything obviously loose. Checked with a small pry bar with the wheels in the air. Ball joints have no play, sway bar links also seem to be fine. Very strange.
Tried to push on the front bumber but can't reproduce that sound.

Disconnect your sway bar links, tie the sway bar up out of the way, go for a drive. Is the noise gone?

GrossmeisterB 04-19-2024 05:13 PM

Will check that tomorrow. Also have the old sway bar links here (just swapped cause I got new ones in a set for cheap), maybe will install them and check if it goes away. Easy to do.
But will also check the bushings as well as I had some rust on the sway bar and had to clean it and use some silicone grease around the bushes, maybe that didn't work too well and now the bushes are "dry"?
