Custom Sub Enclosure
Its been awhile since i posted but just finished a custom enclosure under the back seat of my 2004 Dodge Quad Cab 4X4. Its holding 2 MTX 7500 12' Speakers, this is replacing the premade MTX box that had 10's. New box is covered in leather and suede to match the seats. Had to replace the Punch 400 amp that was pushing the 10's with an MTX 7801 Class D mono Amp. Only place to mount was in the Bed unfortunately.

RE: Custom Sub Enclosure
well the MTX 7500 are pretty big. i have the 12's the under belly is all fiberglass and there was a little tweaking to the box but nothing what so ever was done to the actual truck. if i was to do it again i would remove the carpet padding from beneath the seat to try to steal any extra air space. i do recomend over powering the subs to make up for lack of air space. a buddy of mine built the box and then i took it to an upholstery shop to have it stiched and covered.
but dont get me wrong about the air space this box thunders.....
12's will fit but it has to be custom

RE: Custom Sub Enclosure
what we did was cover the carpet and iside those wells with masking tape. then layed down the first layer of fiber glass directly on top of the tape. then built a frame out of wood that was just to support the subs and fiberglass to bond to. this frame was just a 2 inch outline. then a top piece was fabricated and attached to the frame after fiberglass was built up and reinforced. the subs are actually countersunk but after upholstery u cant really tell. no real dimensions to speak of this box fits so tight because it was formed to the truck.

I have been looking into this MTX box and was also curious about the sound quality. I found out I am able to buy this set up for around $100 new (due to where I work). Just wanted to know if it is worth it or should I look for better quailty. Oh yeah, I only listen to rock and ocasional r&b.

RE: Custom Sub Enclosure
no carpet was removed from under the seat. if i were to do it again i would remove the padding from under the seat. the top piece is material board. under the top piece is also material board but it is cut out other than the outline of the box and 2 rings that the subs actually mount to. the subs do not mount to the very top piece.
