Default Cam question help

I have a 2007 1500 5.7 4x4. I really would like to get a cam and some input on what cam to get and if there is anything else I should get with it. Which one do you recommend? It is mainly stock minus the exhaust and k&n filter. Thanks

It really depends on "how much cam do you want to spend?"

You can run Sidewinders and a few of the lower end cams with just a Superchips, you get into some of the more wild cams, and you'll need a custom tune, valvetrain work, etc. I'm sure some of the resident cam experts will chime in on this one.

what are your supporting mods? you'll need those before you even think about a cam.

What are you planning on doing for tuning? That can usually narrow down the choices fairly quickly.

FULL exhaust (headers --pref longtubes if your emissions laws allow it, and a free-flowing y-pipe). some will do true duals with an H pipe (x-pipes dont work right with the design of the undercarriage).

Tuner -- Go with SCT (04+) or DSP (03+) for the tuner since you're looking to do a cam. Superchips is great for a lightly modded truck, but they dont support a custom tune like SCT or DSP.

CAI - none are any better than another as long as you can get more air into the engine (i know you already have one)

Is this truck gonna be a track queen or a street toy to whip ricers into shape? Once you get the cam, i'd recommend something like a comp cam 268. Its got decent low end, but really shines in the mid range. Get some 4.10 or 4.56 gears and a 2800 or 3000 stall torque converter and you'll have to be launchin in 4x4 to get any traction.

Thanks for the help. Yes it is mainly for the street but it will take a couple runs down the track. I appreciate your input
