Default Low oil pressure on first start attempt.

Ok this problem has me confused. 2004 Dodge Hemi

If I go to start my pickup for the first time of the day if it's around 20 dagrees or colder outide, I show NO oil pressure. If I shut the truck of quick and then turn it back on the oil pressure shoots up to normal. I was thinking bad oil pressure sending unit???

What do you all think?

Does it chatter when you start it the first time or just sound the alarm?

Nope sounds normal.

I still think its getting oil when it does this. The other morning I went out reached in and started it, came back 20 minutes and noticed the check gauge was on and I had no oil pressure. I think if it would have ran for 20 minutes without oil it would have locked up or started knocking.

In that case (not trying to be a D!ck) but why did you even think it wasnt the sending unit?

You answered your own question, or to be sure its oiling pull a valve cover off and start her up, a little messy but you will know 1 way or the other.

Not sure? Buddy of mine is having what I think to be a computer prob and his oil gauge will dip and alarm while driving.

But he also is having Lamp Out alarms with it, so I think if its the computer it comes in multiple lights on the dash.

For instance, my old 98 Dakota had computer problems and had CEL,Brake, and Temp lights trip on it, so start with sending unit, that is only my opinion and am not responsible for being wrong!

My '04 does the same thing, I just shut it off to reset and go on about my business. Let me know if your problem comes back.

Will do, I would say just change it on yours too. It cost me $17 from the dealer and it took me 5 minutes to change i'm not joking. I removed my air filter box. The the sending unit is right above the oil filter below the EGR valve. Used a chanel locks took old one out new one in air box back on and done.

When in doubt, put a mechanical gauge on it. That way you know if it is the pump or the gauge
