I've got a 2003 Dodge Ram Quad w/ the 4.7. I have noticed that when driving the truck & I am at cruising down the highway at around 1800 - 2100 RPM, the RPM's jump up to around 2400 for a split second & go right back down. This is on flat ground & not on any incline. Has anyone ran into this problem. I just bought the truck 2 weeks ago & the dealership can not duplicate the problem. Which I can believe because it doesn't happen all the time. It just happens periodically. It might go days w/out doing anything at all & then it'll start doing it.

Sounds like it is just downshifting for a second, then just jumps back up.

I thought it might be downshifting as well. But, the dealerships has checked everything & it checks out ok. New clean fluid & all. There are no codes stored in the computer either. This is my first Dodge & knowledge on the Dodge's is very minimul.

could be the converter un locking.does it do it at coasting speeds,or close to them?sometimes at a very light throttle the torque converter will unlock,or slip a little

Our 03 5.9L does that sometimes when its pulling havy loads or its cold.

have them re flash the TCM thats the tranny control modual. its seperate on our 03. if you jsut bought it they should do it for free. how fast you goin and is ther any slippage in the tranny that you can feel when it downshifts? no other scenario will cause it? no city drivin etc...

What will the TCM show or tell the technician? If this is the problem... how long will it take to fix or replace?

No, I have not felt any slippage in the tranny what so ever. The only reason I caught it was because the truck has a flowmaster cat back dual exhaust & the exhaust got louder. It does not accelerate either.

Would this be the Transmission Control Solenoid? According to Napa & Autozone both... there is no TCM just the TCS. Again...what will this tell the Tech if it's bad? You are correct.... it only does it on the highway & not city streets. The speed depends but it is usually around cruising speeds of 60 to 75 mph on the highway.

your problem is the throttle position sensor.this is a common problem on dodge trucks. your local parts house will have them in stock.

no its a tcm and for the 03's it seperate from the pcm. 04's and up are all in the same box. if you pop the hood and look at the passenger fender well you'll see two boxes where the fender meets the firewall. the one attached to the fender is the tranny control and the one on the firewall is the PCM.

i never thought of the throotle sensor as well. i would check into that also! letes us know whats up!
