Default ticking....not a repeat post i hope

Ive searched the forum for this, but still dont have any better idea what it is. When i have my truck idling, usualy when its warm, i hear a ticking while im sitting inside, if i rev it up, for a split second i can almost hear the ticking getting faster, but then the engine noise and exhaust noise cover it up. Also, when i open my door, it gets covered up by the exhaust noise. I havent really looked at it that closely, but these are the things ive heard so far as possibilities: Injectors, timing chain/gears/ valve or lifter/ pinging. i know there are other posts on this, but i still cant seem to narrow it down! the tick is really really soft though, hopefully nothing serious yet, but i'd like to catch it before it turns into something bad. By the way, my truck is an 02' Ram 1500 with a 5.9L, C.A.I. and a vortech exhaust. please help me!! thanks!

Try posting it in the 2nd generation section, you will get many more replies in there as we have very few 5.9 owners in here.

You might try removing the fan from the pulley so you can hear the engine better. I don't know if your truck "ticked" before you got the exhaust, but there is a chance itsticking due to a minor exhaust leak.
Chances are it isn't, but finding the source of the tick is usually more work than the fixing it. By removing the fan long enough to listen to the engine as it warms up, it will allow you to hear the engine much better. Something else that helps, especially with loud exhaust is to use a peice of heater hose, about 3-4' long. Place one end of the hose in your ear, then slowly move the other end around potenetial areas you might expect to hear this noise coming from. The hose limits the area you're listening to so you can zero in on it.

Hope this helps---Good Luck

I agree that it could be an exhaust leak. I had the same problem with an old Bronco II about 8 years ago, it was an exhaust leak. But then it got worse when the lifters started sticking and piston pins got loose. F***in' Fords!
