Randomly dripping red fluid, i'm not sure what it is.

There seems to be a slight seepage of fluid from my 04 QC 4.7L. Im not sure what it is or how to fix it. It is red in color and from the service manual it says the power steering fluid is red but also the transmission fluid. The drip is pretty centered on the truck, about 1ft behind the front bumper when parked in my driveway on a slight incline.

edit - forgot to say that shop next door fixed either the power steering hose/clamp (not sure) because it was leaking a few weeks ago.

The red stuff is transmission fluid. The power steering and transmission both use the same stuff...ATF+4. There have been some issues lately with a bad clamp on the power steering pump. Crawl under there and take a look...it's a 50 cent fix if that's it.

Thanks, i shall do that.

Its pretty nice to have shop next door, he will fix little things like that for free if i don't have a clamp. He just likes to have someone to listen to him talk.

Also check the clamp on the reservoir. Mine was leaking from there too.

It appears that everyone is having problems, with their Power Steering components. Maybe there should be recall, because of this.
What do you guys think?

To tell you the truth... I'm having power steering problems myself. I had a leak, but didn't know it until I went to turn the wheel, and... well I almost broke my arms!!! haha. I had half a reseviour of fluid. I would also get some STP power steering fluid instead of the suggested MOPAR. The STP has stop leak in it, so if it is a hose, it will fix itself. Good luck.

Mine just started leaking from the power steering cooling hoses right at the endfittings. I previously also had the common leak which needed the clamp to be tightened.

It has been really cold where I am over the last couple of weeks (40 below some nights), which I think is partly the reason why the hoses started leaking. When things get that cold and stiff they become more prone to leaking.

OklahomaDodgeRam, is it ok to use regular power steering fluid instead of the ATF+4 transmission fluid? In my manual it says that using regular power steering fluid can cause damage.

DO NOT USE ANY OTHER ATF FLUID, OTHER THAN THE SPECIFIED......
