Angry Suggestions for paint cover up

Ok heres the deal, couple days ago the wife was using the truck and pulled into a covered parking lot. Some how when she pulled out the top of the cab scraped the top of the parking stall.

Now I have scratch marks on the middle of my cab, nothing you can see unless its parked on a hill and you are looking for the scratches or in if your in the bed looking at the cab.

I am worried about rust because the f'ing scratches are down to the metal. Paint shop wants over a grand to fix I told them to suck it. Would it be better for me to sand it down, primer, paint, and clear (all out of a rattle can), or just touch it up with some paint that I have and clear it? Any other suggestions?

I know no pics, ill try and get some today.

Get a second opinion ? maybe you sand it and let a shop paint it.. I wouldnt use a rattle can... Seems high for just the roof?

You can get VIN matching paint from the dealer in a rattle can. They are 5oz cans and about $12 each

You'll never be able to blend it in from a can. Touch up paint will also show unless you are a hell of a lot better at it than I am. Forget the "as seen on TV" scratch products which actually work well IF the scratch still has color at the bottom of it, but since you are down to bare metal, NG.
If it was me, the fact that they are barely noticeable, I'd just take some clear nail polish to seal them from the environment. It's also a product that's easily removed if you ever do go to fix them permanently...

Thanks guys, if I chose to go with the nail polish how often do you think I will have to "touch it up". The scratches are in the middle of the cab so as far a blending is concerned not to worried about it but I get what you are saying. I am just trying to hold off the rust as long as possible. NOT willing to spend the kind of money they want to fix it, especially in the place where the scratches are.

I dunno, but I can tell you I've used clear nail polish to fix the wrapping on guides on fishing rods while fishing bass tourneys, and I've never touched it up. Still use them rods today and I ain't fished a tourney since 2004!

My hood scoop is actually a band aid over where a pine limb fell on the hood when I was out in a deer stand. I popped the dent, about as long as from my elbow to my wrist, back out but the last 2" or so popped the other way and flecked off about a quarter size piece of paint, right down to shiny metal! All I did was seal it with clear nail polish and put the scoop on. I have no doubt that will keep it sealed for as long as I have the truck, or that hood at least...

Just got these to fix some scratches. Never used it before but have read good things so I'll give it a shot. Not sure if they make your color but if they do providing the location of your scratch you might want to try it. I heard Duplicolor matches better then the mopar touch-up kits. When I bought my truck you can tell they touched up a spot or two, the color is way off! Good luck.

My dad has done bodywork for about 40 yrs and he has told me to use clear nail polish before. Just make sure you get all of the rust out first (if there is any) or it doesnt really do any good. If you are looking to save some money this is probably the way to go, but I think I would get another quote.
