Thinkin of putting a cut-out on, thoughts?

I have already done flows and i hated the way it sounded when it was in MDS, but i was thinking a cut-out would sound great when i really wanted to romp on it. Thoughts?

oldjeep 02-18-2010 11:51 AM

If you want your check engine light coming on, it sounds like a great idea.

tombogue09 02-18-2010 11:55 AM

I'm considering doing it to mine. There's nothing like that straight pipe sound and there's also nothing like that quiet stock muffler for long drives. A guy on DT did his and posted vids:

If the cutout is before the converter your secondary o2 sensor will not like the exhaust diversion

is there no way to put it after it?

tombogue09 02-18-2010 01:19 PM

The cutout doesn't go before the coverter and sensor, just the muffler

I just know the brand is "Raceland". They have an ebay store: 108 bucks shipped

ChristianJS 02-18-2010 02:24 PM

budlight2384 02-18-2010 05:47 PM

I have it on my truck and I love it. I have had it on for almost 9
Months no check engine light just fun I paid 108 from raceland

No back pressure, which makes the O2 sensor read wonky - not to mention will make the motor run worse just due to the lack of back pressure. Guys who are running the super loud flowmasters and cutting out the resonators are having problems. Lopping off the muffler entirely would be even worse.

oldjeep 02-18-2010 06:00 PM

One of you folks running this "upgrade". Just for grins, take your truck in an do 2 dyno pulls, one with the cutout shut and one with it open.

budlight2384 02-18-2010 06:03 PM

the raceland cutout doesnt close off the stock pipe all the way it just open the other side my truck runs alot better with it open

Is there any wiring involved, or is it all battery?

Ya but its really easy I had a friend hook it up it took him 20 mins most of the time spent was hiding the wires

nolimits 02-19-2010 10:11 AM

I don't think you'll have a significant decrease in performance (it might even gain a bit wot/~4K+ rpm), and the exhaust note will give you a feel of more responsiveness. Not the worst mod you could do, and kinda fun...that's what it's about anyway! I would imagine you'll get a little backfiring with it open though. Looks like a nice piece though, I like the remote idea over a dash mounted switch...I had to bookmark the page for next time I need one for a project!

B.Kaiser1 02-19-2010 11:30 AM

Looks like a good way to poison everybody in the cab with CO. poisoning.

the only way i see that happening is running it open all the time and at stops for a long time u can buy a pipe thats bent down to throw all the co down and away i run it open only in town and sometimes on the freeway

RAM.HUN 02-22-2010 07:06 AM

I don't think poisoning will be an issue if you'll use it for a few seconds or a minute. Maybe some pedestrians would complaint... because of the sound.

BTW I am also about to order a Raceland 3" cutout for my 2009 RAM 1500. A loud vehicle could save lifes! :D

ChristianJS 02-22-2010 11:06 PM

should be getting it on the 25th. I have a muffler buddy that i will talk to a little more about it and who will also be doing it. I have done research on this and it seems to be a split on if its a good/bad or "do what you want" mod.

tombogue09 02-22-2010 11:25 PM

Let us know how it goes. A vid would be nice:icon_playing:

that's cool man is just me but when you open the cut out does the truck feel like it gots more power or im i just triping

Attono 03-01-2010 07:01 PM

I think I'd want to put a turn-down on that thing. Not sure what plastic is back there that might get melted by those hot exhaust gases. This mod does look fun.

I want to get one but it seems like they're out of the 3"?

call them. I also put a K&N drop in, in the truck.... PLEASE do that if you get the cut-out, feels great!!!

Sobomaster 04-10-2010 12:10 PM

I e-mailed them and it looks like they won't have the cutouts in the 3" back in stock until mid-to-late May. I guess I just have to wait......

Sobomaster 04-10-2010 12:10 PM

Oh, and I'm currently shopping for an intake. I think I've decided the K&N will be best for me.

mopar6spd 04-10-2010 02:07 PM

Cut-outs are cool, but beware of Johnny-Law or the inspection man when you install them.

I have (2) 2 1/2 inch stainless cut-outs that i'm trying to get rid of if anyone's interested.. they're exactly the same as these:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-88340/?rtype=10

PM me.

Sobomaster 04-11-2010 10:51 AM

I don't expect them to care down here in TX given how many extremely loud trucks there are....

2009dodgeram 04-28-2010 04:50 PM

ya do you think that it could pass with the cutouts in MA and does it void the warranty?? thanks

not sure if it will void warranty or not but it will pass inspections no problem. Just turn them off before you go in and if they happen to look under the truck just say you use it at the track only.
