fuel economy

Most people never buy a truck for economy either. The V8 truck mpg`s have doubled in the past 10yrs.

My RAM get anywhere between 12MPG to a high of 19-20MPG.
My 02 Sierra was around the same MPG, but had 100HP less.
My 89 Chev RCSBSS was good for 15MPG all day long, but again 100HP less than the 02.
So the MPG is not changing much, just the power:mileage ratio.

I wouldn't say doubled. Increased yes, and MPG:HP has gone way up too.

I do have to agree with you gutty. Yeah doubled is prolly a slight overreach on my behalf, but comparing it to what my old 05 hemi truck got for mpg, i`m just about doubled in mpg`s with my 2010. My old 05 hemi truck was just a reg cab 2wd (no mds & 3.92 gears 245/65/17 tires) My 2010 is a hemi sport 4x4 quad cab... (3.55 open gears) seeing 20 to 22 on the highway all the time in the summer. Best i ever got with my 05 was 12 to 13 highway at best in the summer. Alot has to do with the way we drive i guess. My 10 has street tires too. In the winter, the spare snows i have really eat up the mpg as well as concidering winter blend gas dosent help mpg much, but my 10 is worlds better on mpg than any previous hemi`s i`ve owned. (i`ve owned every hemi since 02 when they came out) My hemi R/T charger is awesome on gas...!!! But then again, i baby it too.
I don't have any other HEMIs to compare too, this is my first. So you would know better on that.

I agree with the mpg's on my '06 Charger RT (when it was stock), it typically averaged about 27/28 highway, and around 21/22 city.
What was funny, my '06 Camry averaged the same gas mileage, and was a XLE 6 cylinder, about 500 lbs. lighter with roughly 150 crank hp less. I always enjoyed telling that to a Toyota owners who questioned my mpg's with Charger when at fuel stations, lol.
Not so much anymore, lol! Hey, I got bored one summer.

Well I'll keep my near 10 year old truck eventhough it gets half the mileage Of course that means all you 4th gens are getting 35-40mpg by now! haha. On the v6 thing, I had of of those wonderful POS 3.9 in a '98 ram and it's nothing compared to what that Pentastar can do. I've driven a few 200's and minivan with it and the power is pretty impressive. With an 8spd in the Ram, I take it this thing will handle what we used to think was a good V8 of a few years past. If I was looking for a grocery getter, I certainly would take a good look at it. Now if they throw a few pounds of boost in there, you'd have a great hauler to compete with the Furds.

I've owned Volvo 4-cyl turbos since 1985 and still have one. They are made for low-end torque and yes they are impressive. However, with the turbo machinery hanging on the engine block, every aspect of maintenance is more important and becomes more so as the mileage racks up. Don't skimp on the quality of your oil or how often you change it, and say goodbye to your engine if there is a cooling system problem. With the Ford trucks, their V8 mpg have improved to the point the V6 EcoBoost doesn't have much of an advantage.
