Installed a Mopar receiver hitch

Hello my fellow Mopar brothers I really love this forum and decided to register. I have successfully installed my first accessories on my new Ram 1500 Crew Cab (Lone Star edition). The Ram I chose did not have the receiver hitch on it. It did have the tow hooks even though it is 2 wheel drive model. So I tried to get the dealer to throw in a free hitch to close the deal but was unsuccessful. The dealer did offer me his price for the part (#82211226) and it came out to $99.00. When the dealership parts guy handed me a small box (shoe box size) I told the guy he must have ordered the wrong part. He double checked and to my surpise it was the right one. I was expecting a 80+ lb tube hitch but our new Rams have the support bar and brackets factory integrated into the rear frame. If your 09 Ram is like mine, all you will be adding is the small sqaure center portion of the hitch. Istallation was very easy and it bolts to the existing frame with just three bolts. I was in such a rush to install it that I forgot to take some pics. I'll try to take some later and attach the instructions to give you guys an idea. The dealer quoted me $160.00 to install the hitch. Don't get ripped off, this is an easy do it yourself add on. Hope this helps.

Hitch pics

Here are some pics of the receiver hitch installed. The first pic shows the large hex bolt that goes through the bumper to the beam. The next pic shows the two hex bolts in the back. It is a a bit tight because of the spare tire, so you cannot use a socket wrench. I used a large adjustable wrench which worked fine for me. Instructions said to tighten top bolt to 300 ft lbs and bottom two bolts to 85 ft lbs. The hitch came with a plastic cap to cover the bolt on the bumper and a cool Ram hitch cover/plug. Now all I need is a new boat to test it on:)

hitch

You have the small hitch , not the class iv hitch, it depends what you are going to tow, but you should be ok

What can I say, I thought it didn't look right the first time I took it out of the box either. I double checked the part number and it matches what is listed on Mopar.com ($118.00 plus S/H) in the accessories section. It fit just right and the holes lined up perfectly.

yes the one I will be getting is much larger then the one you have. looks great either way!

Its a class 3 hitch. 10,000 lb rating.

This one bolts on. The stock hitch receiver is welded to that tube steel that seems to present on all 1500's. Mounts to either side of the frame.

Its expensive and a pretty big deal to add that class IV.
