What hitch drop do I need?
3" or 5" ? I have an 09 QC 5.7 2WD 3.92 LSD with 20" wheels. I don't have anything to tow yet but friends have expressed intererst in towing their boats, trailers, etc. I went to look at adapters and balls and it seems since the truck is so high, I need some kind of drop. So which is best?

Depends on the trailer. Back up to the trailer you are going to tow and get the drop that makes the trailer as level as possible.

You can buy one that will adjust up and down. But you will have issues with ball size. Here are a few options.

2 wheel drive with 20's probably sits around the same level as my 4x4 with 17's. A standard 2" drop should be fine for most circumstances. For a little utility trailer it will be a bit high, for some boats, it may be a bit low. If you're going to be pulling wide variety of things, an adjustable is the way to go.

I love the adjustable hitches but for $200, you could have a 2" drop and a 4" drop and be money ahead. Granted the convienance of not having to switch out would be nice, but I may be able to switch out if I knew I was saving $150.00

Usually most trailers are set up for a height of 18" to the top of the ball.
When I'm not towing I leave the hitch in - it makes people think twice before they tailgate you. |
