Needing a new truck - some Q's regarding the new Ram
 

I'm probably going to purchase a new truck this week or next and have a couple of questions regarding the new Ram. I have a 2nd gen as of now. I own a lawn care business and constantly pull trailers. How does the new Ram do as far as power goes and towing? Are they as easy to get in and out of as the 2nd gens? Basically, it's between this and a diesel. What is the biggest thing you've pulled and what kind of mileage did you get? This is what sells me on a truck.

How much does your trailer and equipment weigh?

The most I've towed so far would be around 3000lbs which is a 24ft Pontoon Boat and trailer. My CrewCab Hemi pulled that boat with no issues at all. I had more than enough power, but then again its only around 3000lbs :icon_shrug:

Yes, I agree, tell us how much you are pulling. My gut says get a oil burner, but if that is the case wait for the 2010 to get the new model.

I would say get the new body style diesel. I recently pulled my enclosed powerwashing trailer with a full tank of water and my hemi did not like it. The combined weight of the truck and trailer was 13,840lbs. My truck is a rcsb, with me and a full tank of gas(which it was), weighs 5500lbs. I dont know what the truck is rated for with 3.55s but it did not like the 8300lbs combined with hills.

I think the overall capacity is something like 9800, at least listed for the 09s. In the 2010 model, with the same hardware the towing got magically bumped up to something in the 10,000 pound range. However, if you're regularly towing around 7000+ pounds, I'd skip the 1500 and wait for the 2010 HDs.

I use my new ram for landscaping so far it's been great I my self have a 14 ft enclosed trailer in which I keep all my equipment and tools. The ram pulls it no problem. I also have a 2009 ford superduty that I use to pull a 14ft dump trailer. I do have problems pulling the dump trailer with the ram, but that's why I have a 1 ton. If all you do is lawn maintenance then i'd say the ram is all you need it's fairly easy to get into its a very smooth ride and the interior is nicer then the fords IMO. I bought the ram because I use it for family car as well. the only down side is, because of the coil suspension it does squat.
