anyone's mufflex leaking at joints?
i finally crawled under the truck after about 1k miles or so on the 14' mufflex dual exhaust setup. it has 2 very small leaks when its been idling for a couple minutes. on the rear clamps. its coming out where they have the pipe "split" for compression. its not ridiculous or anything but you can feel it a little. with your hand. i was really carefull when putting the muffler on. everything is "perfect" with the install. i even tried to tighten them down a little more. no way, its tight as crap.lol. weird thing is i soaped the joints down after i did it to check for leaks. nothing then...
oh well. anyone else? |
I had pretty much the same thing happen to me, altho I have the 24" mufflex kit. After a few hundred miles there was a leak between one of the muffler outlets / tailpipe inlet. I was able to tighten it slightly, which was all the way, and still leaked. (Also was glad it didnt shear off and break like the bolt in the 3in front clamp had, and had to use the factory exhaust clamp on it.) I then patched the leak with some exhaust sealant and it seems to have sealed it up with no problems since then. Am happy with it, but sometimes wish I would have went with the 18" but didnt want too much Highway or MDS drone. Rather frustrating, but whatever.

Where is your clamp in relation to these "splits"?
|
if i remember the splits are towards the top . the clamps are rotated so the nut is facing down, easier to get at with a socket. so the clamp has a full flat surface going across the split
|
Mine was loose from day one, tightened clamps to point of breaking them and still loose.
|
As long as your clamps have not distorted the pipes, you might want to switch to band style clamps. They seal a lot better.
|
im pretty sure their not distorted yet. as for now i think i might leave it . its so minor i hate to mess with it. you cant hear it, under neath it, driving etc. you can just feel a little leak with your hand. thats how i found it.
hey old jeep. got a link of what type of clamp you might be talking about? |
Like these. You need to get step band clamps for a normal exhaust junction

if ya'll don't plan on removing the kit and keeping the truck, mine as well go and pay $40 and have it welded on...
