Can't find ball hitch that will fit

I bought one from home depot and the tail is not long enough and won't go past the bottom of the bumper. I went to 4wheelparts and they seem to have the same ones. Might I be missing something here?? Am I not suppose to hook up from my bumper?

So you are trying to mount a ball on the bumper, rather than use a receiver hitch?

You'll have to look around a bit, most trailer balls are set up for the thickness of a receiver.

You only use the hole mount on the bumper for very lite loads. Very Very lite loads. I would never use the bumper period. You need a hitch that slides into the receiver that should be already installed. If you do not have a receiver to slide the hitch into than you need to go and get one. If your truck is new I would go back to the dealer and see if they will install it for free. After all, many Dodge trucks have it on them as standard. My truck came with one. The heavy duty type.

Make sure the receiver is deep enough for the trailer you will be pulling. I have a 6" drop on my receiver. That might be to high in some cases. The adjustable type seems practical, but very expensive.

Lol no I'm not trying to pull from my bumper.....

My hitch is covered by the bumper. On top of the bumper there is a hole that if you remove the cover you can see that if you drop a ball in it will hook on the reciever. I went to uhaul and they had a shank long enough. Thanks guys

T h says 5000lbs load. The reciever is bolted to the frame. Then the bumper slides over it. Your saying I can't use that??

I wouldn't. You have a receiver hitch - use it.

I dont have the tow prep package. I do have the standard reciever. I called the dealership and they said that there wouldnt be a reason why I shouldnt be able to pull from it. Its basically a reciver with a hitch. I just add the ball. He said its no different then the prep package which the different is adding another hitch and a ball to extend. Also, He said if i ever lift the truck i dont be able to lower it the ball to match my lift. Thats my only downfall.

Huh - I didn't know the Ram was setup like that. That would explain the need for a longer shank. Then again, I have the tow package.
