The "Hemi Click"
 

Hi guys,

I have just joined the Dodge Forum and am very excited to be on here. I just bought my first truck and it happens to be a 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7 L

I have had it for a few months now and it has about 2,500 miles. When i bought it i heard this clicking noise and the sales manager said it was "the hemi Click" that all hemis have this click. I thought nothing of it. However, now it is louder and more distinct. This may be a stupid question and I may just be naive and new to Dodge, but what is this "click'? Is the Hemi click a real thing and if so does it last forever? is it a myth? Thanks guys and again I apologize for the beginner questions.

The click noise is your fuel injection and it is normal.

The Hemi tick is something different.

The hemi click is the group of salesmen that have a drink every time a hemi is sold.

Maybe your salesman confused the two. Lol

If it gets very loud on cold startup and goes away after a few minutes or a little more, it could be broken manifolds/manifold bolts. That would be really weird on a truck with that low of mileage, though, usually (if its going to happen) it will happen somewhere between 25k and 40k.

Well i got also this tick on cold. Usually it disapear after several minutes.

Is it a big problem, what to do ?

royal purple quieted both my 12 and 13 5.7 down noticeably.

I have clean up the plug on solenoid trs, but unfortunately, i got always the squares on each gear. Any idea?

i used to own a 08 hemi truck for 5 years, i always that hemi tick..

it never became a problem, she always a ran 110%

after a cold start up it ticked for a minute or two then quit. it also revd to 1500 for a minute or two then idled down to normal

Bingo. I had this happen on mine around 35k.

We have a 2012 Durango with 120K that had a very mild tick, that turned into a very loud one by 110K miles. I do not drive it daily, so I was unaware until the Mrs. said something. Since we have an extended maintenance plan it was fixed without cost to us. However, it took three attempts to resolve.

1. The loud noise followed by a Service Engine light had me bring it in. At this point it was more than a tick. The light indicated a misfire on #3 Cylinder. The dealer replaced rocker arms on #3 and the Service Engine light went out. The tick was still much louder than normal. After 1K miles we took it back.

2. Dealer replaced all pushrods on the cylinder bank. The light went away and the noise was only slightly diminished. We tolerated it for about 4K until the Service Engine light returned.

3. This time they diagnosed a worn cam lobe and replaced the cam. This fixed the issue. We are now at 6K since the work was completed. The engine is as quiet as new.
