engine temp malfunction

I have a video showing what my truck has been doing for awhile only when it gets cold out any help would be appreciated.. I have taken it to the shop and no codes are found etc dealership wont do nothing since they cannot replicate the problem. I think it is a simple sensor but I am not a mechanic.

any help would appreciated

Could be a sensor or the gauge itself. Rod will chime in he knows these a bit better then I do.

The simplest way to find out is for you to duplicate the issue with some consistency. Then buy a new sending unit and without installing it, disconnect the sending unit from the truck and connect the new one and see what happens. If that is the problem install it. If it's not the problem just return the unused part.

truck was at the dealership and they changed the temp sensor, still does the same thing. would you suggest it is the gauge or instrument panel?

engine temp malfunction

Hello, I am new to this forum and I am looking for any insight that someone may have on this problem I am having with my truck.

2015 ram 1500

this only happens in the Winter.. I will start my truck and start driving for around 10-15 minutes. Truck is about half to normal operating temp before the heat gauge sky rockets to the point it wont even read out the temp reading. I shut the truck off and immediately turn it back on and everything goes back to normal.
Ive been to the dealership a couple times and the only thing done so far is the temp sensor changed. but still is doing the same thing.
Summer months or anytime above freezing this will not happen.

I have attached a video to show what is happening.

hope someone can shed some light on this.

thanks

Nathan

I suspect a PCM issue and that ain't good. :icon_sad:

Try this: disconnect the battery for five to ten minutes and reconnect.

You are "nathenm" too?

Yes I am. Sorry for the mishap. I am in the process of deleting my old username and password. Trying to many forums to figure out the problem. Lol

i did try the battery disconnect but unfortunetly it didn’t work. It’s going back to the shop next week but I just want to get some research done before I go back.

I will suggest the pcm to them.
