I have not seen one truck with a locking tailgate. Is there a key whole like the chevy's or is it all internal?

I was at the Dealer this pass weekend, and the trucks I looked at had the locking tailgate with a keyhole. Also had some crew cabs with the ram box, pretty nice. No backup cameras though.

I'm going to wait till the pace edwards version comes out. Then it will lock and unlock with my wireless remote control. For 85 bucks that will be nice.

PE is the way to go. I was able to wire it myself into the driver's side power lock. Tricky part is coming through the firewall. I bet the locking tailgates come with the Rambox option. Saw a Rambox on the road the other day.

Looking on the Dodge site it says it's standard equipment.

Yeah, I need one too. I've taken the tailgate off a few times and it is way too easy to remove. Dealer near me says not available. Please keep us posted on the aftermarket ones.

I also didn't realize I didn't have one until I got home. If you look on a later build SLT, you'll notice the last item in the first section is a locking tailgate.
The part is $59 from the service department and the dealer will key it for about another $30. There is a kit to connect it to your electric locks for $104 and you can go the whole way and get the replacement locking gate with camera for $400 if you have the navi radio.

I'll be ordering the locking tailgate and looking in to how to wire the electric locks.

For those interested in the locking tailgate that don't have one here is the scoop....

There are 3 components that tie together to make the locking tailgate work.

The Handle - 3 options - Standard / Locking / Locking with Camera
Control Unit - 2 options - Locking / Locking with Camera
and the Rod - 2 options - Standard / Locking w or w-o Camera

If you are retrofitting your non-lock tailgate truck you will need all 3 of these parts from Mopar in the combination that you need. Combined they are $130 bucks. I have posted the part numbers below. The parts are currently available for purchase.

The issue is now you have to get the dealer to wire the control unit into your door locks and it seems like no one in my area knows how to do that quite yet. Apparently there is a harness located on the right side of the underside of the truck that has leads for the camera and door locks already. Unfortunately no one at my dealer knows which ones to tap in to to make it work.
I am going to take this project on myself as soon as it warms up. i have seen that harness and there is a plug on it that is not being used just have to do some simple tests to determine which wires trip the control unit.

If anyone has a dealer that knows how to do it. Let me know.

Nicely done, Smooth!

So if I just want locking without camera or remote option, do I still need the control unit? or just handle and rod...

The control unit is for tying in the lock to your power doors of your truck. If you just want to use the key, then you don't need to control unit.
