Hemi slows down as soon as my foot's off the gas...

Default Hemi slows down as soon as my foot's off the gas...

Hi there, I have a 2010 4x4 Ram with a Hemi in it and I noticed that when I'm driving on the highway as soon as I take my foot off the gas it immediately starts slowing down. So I always have to have my foot on the gas to maintain speed.
Are they all like this?
Is it to do with the MDS technology?

Huh? You let off the gas and you are suprised that the truck slows down? Sounds like every vehicle I've ever driven,

Well, I've driven many many vehicles and of course they slow down a bit when you take your foot off the gas pedal, but with my new truck it just seems a lot more pronounced. My husband has a 3500 Cummins Diesel and whenever he drives my truck he comments on how it's weird how much it slows down and asks me to try to find out if that's normal.

I dunno- it just feels different than every other truck I've driven...

buy a Toyota, they don't never slow down even when you want them too got to love the auto floor it option

Hello and welcome. It is normal for your truck to do what you are saying. It will do it allot more in the tow haul mode as well. The truck defuels itself very quick when you take your foot off the gas and more so with the 2010 model. It has to do with the fuel saver mode that is programed into your trucks computer.

Excellent sking- that's what I thought was going on, but I just wanted to check so I can let my man know it is in fact normal.
It doesn't bother me at all- I'm in love with the truck.

I seem to remember someone on here complaining that they thought theirs didn't slow down fast enough when they let off the gas?? Said it picked up too much speed when headed down hills. (was a 2009 model)

Mine seems perfectly normal (it's an 09). And that is with the 3.92's. The only time I've noticed it being a bit different was in Tow Haul mode where it does downshift and slows you down faster than normal.

Some dumb questions. Is your's a floor or column shifter? You are in Drive and not riding around in one of the other gears? And you're not in Tow Haul mode?

The MDS will not cause your issue. They did add something new to the 2010's though called iDFSO, Interactive Decel Fuel Shut-Off. It is software that cuts fuel to the engine while decelerating to increase gas mileage. But I would think if it caused slowing down faster than normal, it would kinda defeat the purpose of saving fuel if you had to press the accelerator sooner to keep moving.

Can you go to your dealer and drive another similar truck to see if it is the same? Be sure it has the same gears for the closest comparison. It's kinda hard to really tell you what is normal without seeing it in action first hand. But to answer your question, mine feels just about like any other vehicle I have been in as far as coasting goes.

Your point isn't abstract to me. I to noticed this after purchasing my 2010..more so than the other vehicles I drive, including a 1995 F350..I think it has to do with the way these things are geared, they have an awful lot of snap under throttle, which I contribute to the physics of the drivetrane..however with great snappy throttle comes poor gas mileage, and superior drag when off the throttle. That is the work of the drivetrane pulling back on the truck once the throtle is released.
