Burned DVD's won't play on VES?

Not sure why this would happen, I tried multiple formats (NTSC and PAL) and had no luck.

I have a bunch of movies in .avi format that I burn to DVD's using Xilisoft AVI to DVD burning program which works on any DVD player I've ever used. VES system in my '11 Durango doesn't recognize the disc.

Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with it but how do you know the unit will even play custom burnt disc's? I am assuming they are all . VOB files on the disc?

yeah it's a standard DVD, works in my PS3 and on a standard DVD player as well. Not sure why it won't recognize it.

Its a 2011 Durango, do I need to do a firmware update? I've seen some update discs for sale but it's not clear if it's needed or not

If the hardware is capable then it is the firmware that governs it

Yeaup, needs to be a different, supported format or it won't play. Your DVD player and PS have multiple supported formats.

Ok, so what's the supported format? It's obviously more restrictive than a normal panasonic DVD player you get from any store.

DVD format is VOB. It contains two folders Video_TS and Audio_TS, you have to convert your video to DVD compatible video and finalize the DVD, otherwise regular DVD player can not read and play it.
If you want to know how to burn video to DVD to play on DVD player, I think this step by step guide would help you, it will show you the detailed steps on converting video to DVD format, burning video to DVD, it's easy to understand and works pretty well for me.

This is the same type of program as Xilisoft AVI to DVD that I use. It burns to DVD with the Audio TS and Video TS folders with the correct VOB files, but it won't play on the VES. Like I said it plays on any normal DVD player out there just not in the car

I used to have an Xbox1 that was customer and would play custom burned games. But it only liked certain brand disc's. For instance, Sony DVDs wouldn't play but others would.

Yeah but that xbox was probably modded if it was playing pirated games. Oh well I'll keep trying different formats and different brand discs. Thanks guys.
