2004 Ram Infinity System Question...Please help!!

Ok I found this link in one of the posts about the 7 speak Infinity Systems.

http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/onstar.asp

Its Peripheral Electronics and they show that part CHYAH05 is a Data Bus to Add an aftermarket radio while retaining your
factory audio system in 2005 and 2006 Chrysler
vehicles such as: Durango, Magnum,
Charger, Ram, 300, and Jeep.

Now what I want to do like everyone else is install an Aftermarket HU and not have to take out the factory amp... WIll this part allow for that? Last night I went to Nebraska Furniture Mart where they are a dealer of this peripheral electronics brand...and the sales guy did a look up on this part and he said that the factory head unit has to STAY in place and then you have to mount the new aftermarket headunit somewhere else.... I was like Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat???

Is this true...or is this data bus part really the knight in shining armor when someone wants to hook up an aftermarket head unit to an 04' dodge ram with the 7 speaker infinity system? Please advise.

Thanks,
D

I can help you out with this. Are you looking to still maintain the functionality of your controlls such as steering wheel volume/track search buttons? Most Aftermarket recievers are not capable of doing this but i do know that there are a few out there. Your best option is probably to get a install kit from a place like Circuit City and do it that way... What options do u have in your truck... u dont have Navigation or anything like that right? Ill post or PM u some links with what u would need

Yeah I noticed that the part was designated for 05-06 Chrysler/Dodge vehicles. What the h*ll changed in one year from the infinity system that wouldn't allow it to work in the 04'?!

Anyways... CaptainPioneer... what I want to accomplish is taking out my factory Head unit and either having some type of connection to the factory amp or Bypassing the amp all together, but not having to run the wire to all the 3 dash speakers. I have seen amp bypass wiring harnesses for the 04' infinity system but I'm not sure how they work exactly.

Do still get sound out of the 3 dash speakers if you bypass the amp? If you don't by pass the amp is your HU basically a Dead Head Unit and the system still utilizes the watts coming from the amp to power the speakers?

I also want to keep the steering wheel controls... DEFINITELY... but then again... I have seen the harnesses/devices offered by Peripheral Electronics and PAC... and it seems like you have to buy very specific models of either Sony, Pioneer HU's?

Please let me know what models you have found to keep this system working in harmony!!
THANK YOU!!
