Chrysler suitors seek union support

Now here is a thought to all those that dislike the unions. They just may be the driving force that holds Chrysler together.

"Ten of the 20 members of DaimlerChrysler's supervisory board are employee representatives, and their opposition to a particular bid could kill its chances"

Those ten are made of the three unions that are in dc. Uaw, Caw and IG Metal. So to all those that either work for, or have a family member that works for chrysler it just maybe the unions that save our collective hides. Because lets face it if someone buys us and splits us up there would be thousands of jobs lost on both sides of the fence. Personally I'm hoping for magna. Its not quite American, but we all know canada is really just the 51st state anyways!:D

RE: Chrysler suitors seek union support

Like the US Vice President in the Senate,
the 'independent' Chairman of the DaimlerChrysler Board of Supervisors does not normally vote.

Normal voting is done by 10 board members from management, 9 German Union board members, and 1 UAW appointed member.

If there is a tie, the Chairman votes and breaks it.

About a year ago, the UAW member voted with management to eliminate 5,000 European jobs. This angered the German Union board members, who also said they were lied to by the UAW member prior to the vote. That UAW board member died sveral month ago, and has now been replaced by a new UAW appointed member.

Recently the German union board members called American Private Equity companies like Blackstone 'locusts' and said they were against selling to someone who would destroy jobs.

The soap opera continues.
