5.7 HEMI in 2005 Dodge Dakota

During AuoLine Detroit's report on Chrysler and the success they are enjoying with the HEMI, it was mentioned that the "Chrysler is building approximately 1/2 a million engines per year, but still cannot keep pace with demand. The report also mentioned that the 2005 Dodge Dakota would be among the vehicles offerred with a 5.7 HEMI." Great news for Dodge fanatics.

This goes against everything they've been saying about the Dakota. Maybe they decided to do another RT model though.

like jgralka said: sorry, but no hemi offered for the Dodge Dakota. The hemi is too big for the Dakota. The Dakota wasn't designed to have the 5.7L. Its Overkill.

I don't see how the hemi is to big for the dakota considering the dakota is basicaly a durango pickup and the durango has the 5.7, also the engine compartment on the magnum and 300 is much smaller than the dakota from what i've seen and they fit the hemi in them as well, and there is no such thing as overkill when it comes to engine size ;)

Actually the dakota and durango are 2 seperate animals now.

The durango and the dakota are no longer built on the same platform.
The suspension, BIW designing, and PT setup of the two vehicles are totally different. Also, the durango is built in Newark while the dakota is built in Warren, MI.

All those facts are true. But still you have to wonder, if they can fit a 5.9 engine before, why not a 5.7???? Unless this new redesigned dakota has a different frame setup where it will not be able to hold up to a 5.7???

Then again, we did not see the R/T come out for the Dakota until a year later after the 2nd generation came out. So I am betting this will be the same for the 3rd generation Dakota. First year to sell to if the new design sells? Then put out an R/T model or one with a hemi option?
