6-Speed Auto Transmission On The Way: 68RFE:
If you guys recall, for the past year I have been posting information that the Dodge Ram would be getting a 6-speed automatic tranny. Well I thought it was going to debut in the 2006 Dodge Ram, but I was wrong... however, the latest word came from an article from a guy who works at the Kokomo Plant... he says...
"So, what is the most exciting thing coming to the Kokomo facilities in 2005? The addition of two new six-speed transmissions was at the top of almost every list.
“The 62TE launch,” said Moore. “That will be the biggest thing.”
“All of our plants will be involved in that,” said Bush.
“The 62TE will replace the 41TE, and then we’re adding the 68RFE,” said Boruff.
“These transmissions will launch in January 2007, so we’ll be retooling (at ITP1) this December,” said Garrison.
“It is a very high-quality transmission, and it will be the biggest launch in our history,” said Cooper. “And it could turn into even more for us.”
For Garrison, the biggest development, however, could be the implementation of “Smart” production.
“It’s all about involving the people in the production system,” said Garrison. “It will help us continue to improve the process.”
“You have to develop a good operator in order to make a quality part,” said Cooper. “If you don’t have a well-trained work force and support their development, you’re not going to have a good product. Our members have been crying for help, and for the first time, everyone is listening to the operator.
“They are the ones making the parts. They are the ones who can tell you what works and what doesn’t.”"

RE: 6-Speed Auto Transmission On The Way: 68RFE:
Can someone please explain what vehicles these transmissions go in?
“The 62TE will replace the 41TE, and then we’re adding the 68RFE,” said Boruff.
Are any of them for the Dodge 2500 Ram Cummins?
And when will the 6 speed auto for Cummins be on the dealers lots; month and year?

RE: 6-Speed Auto Transmission On The Way: 68RFE:
I work in Kokomo where the 48RFE's (current auto used behind the diesels) are made and my plant has not been involved with anything for the 68RFE. Now there are 2 other tranny plants here....something may be going on there.
My plant is going to be making the 62TE. We are hot and heavy into the retool and installation of the assembly areas for this transmission. We are starting to cut some new cases and make individual parts. The assembly area is a long way off.
