Why is the output lower on the Cummins in hp and tq despite the larger displacement in comparison to the Duramax? I wonder what the dyno has to say about these numbers, the Cummins is often underrated.

Either way, they're all pretty even now... Good diesels aren't just about hp and trq numbers...

put a 20,000 pound load on all three trucks that come out in 07 and tell them to go cross country. which one do you think will make it and use less fuel doing so

it is a numbers game, but look at where the 6.7L but also the 5.9L made torque. 1500-1600rpm you have full torque throughout the power band. the V8 engines cannot do this, they do make full torque at 1800-2000rpm, but they fall off much like a gasser. inline 6 engines are like this, they have a very flat torque curve that is better for pulling since you have that torque there instead of it dropping off.

Good points Drew. It is nice to have a person who has a vast knowledge and understanding about this stuff to put it in the proper perspective.

The reason why I asked is I have read reviews where the Cummins is heavily underrated and the Duramax is overrated and I wouldn't be surprised if this is also the case.

A V8 really isn't needed (comparing Cummins vs Stupid Duty)
