The Caliber SRT-4 will be front wheel drive with limited slip front axles. Also, it will have Electronic Stability Control on it with some extra settings so you can make it so it doesn't kick in all the time.

Why not buy the R/T AWD and drop the turbo'd 2.4l in it later... I agree, an R/T with AWD and an SRT without... STUPID...

im guessint maybe to save the weight of the AWD to keep the srt's numbers up??? but would you run into any problems pushing 350 or 400 through the AWD on the R/T?

It's because they don't have an AWD drivetrain that can both fit in the Caliber, mate up with the 2.4, and handle how much power the SRT-4 will put out, the R/T's drivetrain could mateup not not handle that much power, and while they could design one, between the design costs and manufacturing costs for a low volume part like that it would push the SRT-4 well out ofit's target pricerange, likely itwouldbe somewhere in the range of $28k.

Well its nothing new...You could get a Neon SRT-4 Stage 3 with over 300HP and it was also FWD. Like Shiltz said, Chrysler doesn't have an AWD system that fits the Caliber and they aren't going to spend oodles of money just for 1 model thats built in limited production.
