Squeaky brakes?

I mean, is the squeak from the front or rear in the first place? If it is from the rear, then lubing the contact point with brake grease usually takes care of the "squeak on brake release."
Maybe you do need brake, but it is just not related to the squeak. How many miles you have on your brakes? usually they only last between 30k-50k miles, depending on how you drive.

I bought my caliber 2 months ago with almost 49k miles now its on 51k and it just started squeaking. It actually sounds like more of a whistle now.. And i just got new brakes. Now the whistle is there when i release the brakes AND now when im braking/stopping,
theres also a weird sound like a scraping metal..

I would definitely take it back and have them recheck their work. I agree with steak that the noise when releasing the pedal is probably the shoes on the rear needing lube where they ride on the backing plate. Our 09 did this about 6 months after we got it new and lubing the backing plate did the trick. still quiet almost 5 years and 32k miles later.
There should be no grinding noise at all.
