Transmissions
They might be the best selling, but their A404 traansmissions don't last very long. Ours went out at 87000 miles. Seems kinda low milage for a modern transmission. Maybe, sometime the engineers will figure it out. Curious about the lifetime warranty on drive train though. Chris

RE: Transmissions
When the 1st a604 were made in late 1988 and failed as soon as they came off the truck. So the a604 as come a long way. The transmission you need to watch out for is the NAG 1 thats in the LX body. 300c, charger, and magnum. This transmission went thru 47 changes before germans gave it to dodge and whole diff transmission in theirs.

RE: Transmissions
We have two dodge vans now and really like dodge products, obviously. A 1998, that we just recently replaced the tranny in and a 1989 with a turbo. We are thinking about a new dodge van, but with all the tranny problems, are leaning toward a kia instead. Your opinion please.

RE: Transmissions
I had work for KIA for a few years along with dodge at the same time, At that time I was repairing more KIA transmissions and enginesthan dodge transmission. What I am trying to tell you ALL cars products have problems not just dodge.

RE: Transmissions
How do you know what kind of tranny you have? I have a new 07 SXT. Other than the hard downshifting it seems OK.
My previous Caravan was a 96 w/3.3. I kept that one 11 yrs and 105K and never had any tranny issues. I did maybe 3 oil/filter changes on it and that was all the service that tranny ever saw. |
RE: Transmissions
Well since you are under the caravan post, If you have a 2.4, 3.3 or 3.8 engine you could have a 40TES or 41TES transmission. The 2008 caravans will have two transmissions 41TE and 62TE auto. But you have a manual trans there are two. 5 speed or the 6 speed.
