2000 Caravan 3.0 L - timing marks align but engine doesn't spin smoothly

i have replaced my timing belt, and somehow got the timing off. Actually, alignment mark on the camshaft and the crankshafts all look like they align just right, but when i installed the timing belt, something binds up the engine and I cannot rotate thru.

Rear camshaft pulley is 'springing' when i rotate it to align the timing marks. It springs past the alignment marks and i have to ease it back into alignment.

Any ideas??? Need help bad. Thanks.

The crankshaft maybe still off, If you like a picture of the timing marks. Just send an email and I'll send a pdf file.

2000 dodge caravan 3.0 timing belt issue

I have a 2000 dodge caravan 3.0 sohc. The timing belt shredded to pieces riding down the road. If it just shut off without a big knock could the valves still have got damaged? How would i go about getting it back in time? Because isn't it possible that one or more of the three sprockets kept rotating? I need help..... BAD.

I think the 3.0l is a non-interference engine, you can just slap a new belt and water pump on and be done.
But occasionally, i've heard ppl say they bent their valve in the 3.0l.

you should probably run a leak down test on the engine before u waste money to throw a belt on.

While I agree that a leakdown test first will save hassle, the belt is cheap and relatively easy to install so I'd throw a belt on first and see how it goes. If you're paying a shop to do it, make them do a leakdown test FIRST.

The 3.0L in the minivans and domestic car will not implode when the timing belt comes off. However, the 3.0L that they put in the Diamond Star cars will.

I'm doing this all myself. Wish i would of changed the belt before it shredded. I've been searching on how to set TDC. I might just try throwing the belt on and seeing if it at least cranks.

I can send you a procedure with diagrams if you think it will help. Send me a PM with an email address.

Well i got the belt on everything seems to be turning ok but now its not getting any spark. I took the main dis wire off from the rotor cap and its not sparking when i turn the key. I swapped the coil pack and the wires are fairly new. I'm stumped.
