Where's the #5 Injector? 01 Caravan 3.3L
1 Attachment(s)
Diagnostics says it's a bad #5 injector.
I'm trying to replace, but not sure which one is the #5. The wiring diagram I found on autozone.com (see link below) When I look at the engine, is it supposed to be just like looking at the diagram? Problem is, the diagram shows that the #5 should be bottom right...with the #6 behind it & further to the right...hmmm....looking at my engine, the bottom row has the furthet right injector. The back row is offset to the left. Am I reading this upside down? http://www.autozone.com/autozone/rep...00c1528021dbc5 |
Rear bank of cylinders is 1.3.5 now doesn't that just sound too easy. If not, it's the injector closest to the master cylinder. Need information that that? But why are you tackling this? It's really rare for an injector to fail

1.3.5 left to right?
Mobile mechanic diagnosed last week. Said it was a bad #5 and he'd be back to fix...yet never showed on Friday...all the nearby mechanics are closed over the weekend and the parts store can't get me a new injector til Tuesday. I'm leaking fuel everywhere when the car is running...out the exhaust pipe end and beneath the car. Definitely fuel and not water. We disconnected the injector first...that did not work. I am pretty desperate here. This is my only vehicle and I commute an hour to work. Someone gave me some advice...said it would be driveable if we took the injector out and 'plugged' it...at least until I could replace it? Advice, help, thoughts?? |
I should probably add that before the original diagnosis, the car felt like it was running out of gas...and went through (or leaked) about 8 gallons of fuel in just about 15 miles. It looked like it was smoking out the tailpipe, but not like a head gasket. (radiator fluid never dropped and car is not overheating).

Wow, that's just about impossible to dump that much gas thru a little injector and it's impossible for the fuel pump to dump 8 gallons in 15 miles (assuming you were going around 60mph. I drain the fuel tanks buy disconnecting the fuel line and running the fuel pump. it takes over 15 min to drain out 8 gallons. You'd have to have a hole in the fuel line just pouring out all the fuel and the engine couldn't possibly run because there wouldn't be enough pressure. Whom ever gave the advice of plugging the hole is a fool. There's no way to do this effectively and hold back over 50psi pressure. Plus running your engine on 5 of 6 cylinders is a really bad idea and will do additional damage. As for 1,3, 5. was I not specific enough to state that 5 is closest to the master cylinder. Do you not know what a master cylinder is?

ya odd numbers on the back andnum 1 is the cyl closest to the front of the moter 3 is in the middle and 5 is last on that side, evens on front 2 is in front by the belt, 4 in the middle and 6 at the end.
