Wife's van started running bad, would start but after a minute it would die. After some looking around I found that the bolts from the tourque converter to the flywheel/flexplate had backed out and wallowed out the bolt holes on the flywheel by 1/4 inch. Replaced flywheel and bolts along with the crank and camshaft sensors. Started on the first turn and ran great for about 20 miles. Took it down the street to get a six pack and it flat out died. Started up again after a few minutes with the engine light on and got it home with it running fine. These engine codes were not on before the repair. These are for the cam and crank sensors. Any ideas? Only thing I can think of is timing belt or PCM. Belt was not due to be replaced for 20k more miles.

This is a Dodge Caravan 3.3 Flex 02.

When you replaced the sensors. Did they come with certs on the sensors? Certs are a small round piece of thick paper thats glue to the sensors. That is the air gap adjustment. The 3.3 doesn't have a timing belt. Did you buy mopar sensors of aftermarket? I have seen problem with aftermarket sensors. I would get mopar sensors.

 

If you have a volt meter I would check for proper 5volt reference at both sensors, you could have pinched the wiring harness, or even yet the harness could of melted on the exhaust manifold shorting to ground. try that first...I am sure this is your issue

 

Cam sensor came with a cert but not the crank. These were aftermarket. I have a volt meter will check that and the harness , thanks.

 

Everything checked out, when I reconnected the battery it ran fine for a while. After about 10 minutes it started sputtering and the engine light came on again this time with a P 0171 code. Checked the MAF sensor and cleaned it. Started it and it ran fine again. I am just afraid to drive it anywhere for fear of the next code.

 

Gentz had said to check the wires on the rear cylinder head, The wire will melt together and cause a lot of the codes you are getting. So take a look at the harness and you may need to open the harness to inspect the wires.
