'98 won't start. Relay issue?
 

My wifes '98 Plymouth Voyager will not start. The relay under the dash labeled number 13 is making a buzzing sound. I replaced it and same thing. It does stop making the noise when I apply the brakes. About a month ago I replaced the switch by the brake pedal that controls the brake lights. Replaced that because the brake lights were not working. I replaced that again now thinking that may be causing it since the relay stops buzzing when I apply the brakes which in turn releases that switch. Any suggestions?

By "will not start" do you mean you turn the key and hear nothing or just a click or does it mean the engine rotates but won't run?

That relay number 13 under the dash keeps making a buzzing noise, unless you apply the brakes. It makes the noise without the key even being in the ignition. I had to take it out so it stops.

I would check to make sure your battery is up to speed. Make sure the connections are shinny clean and tight. If you jump start it with jumper cables and it starts, you probably need a new battery or at least have it charged. A load test is the benchmark test - free almost anywhere. Got a meter and know how to use it? Connect the leads across the battery. Should see at least 12vdc. Now turn the key to start. If it dips below 9 vdc replace the battery. Clicking relays and no sign of the start system cooperating are a signs of weak power.

Out messing around with it again, and that is what I did. Cleaned off the terminals and jumped it. She started right up. Battery does look old so suppose I better go get a new one before the cold weather gets here.
