[General]: 2.4 Engine Dependability

2.4 Engine Dependability
I have two base model Caravans - both with the 2.4 engine:
(1) 2000 with 96,000 miles and a 3 speed trans.
(2) 2006 with 34,000 miles and a 4 speed trans.
So far, no problems with either.
Did the timing belt on the 2000, but not on the 2006.
Should i do the timing belt on the 2006 because of age(not miles)?
How dependable are these 2.4 engines and their transmissions?
Owner's manual for the 2000 says to adjust the trans bands. Does anybody do this?
What problems should i expect as i put miles on these vans?
Just as a comment - i don't like the design of the rear drum brakes, but i guess they are OK, because they work.,...
Thanks to all,...offgas

I don't think there is a more dependable caravan then that 2000 with the 3 speed. Hopefully you changed water pump when you did the timing belt. I have a 1999 with the 3 speed and use it for delivery. Make about 600 stop PER DAY! I haven't adjusted bands on this one but its not hard. I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts acting up. Change the filter and flush by removing one line to the radiator and adding in top while its idling. On the 2006. Change filter every 30000 mile and flush at 60000 intervals.
