1998 Brake failure after rotor pad replacement
I replaced the front rotors and pads. For about two weeks after, I heard a "clicking" sound on right front, with frequency matching car speed. When brakes applied, sound disappeared. Yesterday, brake pedal went to floor. No brakes. No fluid. Any suggestions?

Blown brake hose would be a good start to check for

Ok. I can check that this morning. Thanks.

Lines look good
The lines look good. What else might it be?

so the fluid was low, correct. The wheel cylinders are also known to leak but guess I haven't seen one just blow out. Normally with a sudden loss of brake you have a line failure somewhere.

There is a blown line
So we put the car in the garage, jacked it up, put fluid in, and pressed the pedal. Voila. A stream of fluid shot out from the rear, on the passenger side. So the line is clearly broken, has a split or hole. We looked for some useful diagrams to see where the line is connected, but couldn't find any.
Thanks for your suggestion. Shows that a visual inspection itself doesn't always show things. |
The line runs from the wheel cylinder down the axle to the rubber line. From there it goes to the weight sensing proportioning valve.
