Default Possible transmission problem

We were driving this morning and had an issue with our 96 caravan. We shifted from reverse into drive and it acted like it was in neutral. When we shifted back into neutral and into drive, it was fine. It was also fine shifting from park into drive. What could this be?

Welcome to DF

I would check the fluid level, it could be low. Did the check engine lamp come on? Because if it did, you could have a loss of prime code. P0944.........

When was the last time the filter was replaced? And do you know if you have a 3 speed trans or a 4 speed transmission. The reason I ask, is because you didn't state if you have a 3.0 or 3.3 engine.

Then I would have the transmission module checked for stored codes. And post the findings. Also have a clutch test done and check the CVI.
