Default 06 Dodge Grand Caravan Rack & Pinion

Hello all,

My 06 Dodge Grand Caravan is making some squealing noises sometimes when turning, occasionally when breaking. I'm pretty sure it's the rack & pinion, it's been mentioned on a few oil changes that it is leaking, I just recently put 2 & 2 together! (I was thinking brakes at first) It sounds like both boots are filled with fluid.

I'm not super mechanically inclined, but better than some. I've changed oil, brakes, radiators, starters, etc. Never done a rack & pinion, but it really doesn't look that hard from what I've seen on You Tube, the internet, etc.

My first question, am I right that I could probably figure this out. I'd get a Chilton's manual, etc.. Any ideas on length of time?

Second, if I'm replacing the rack & pinion, should I be doing tie rods or anything else? Nothing is mentioned as being bad otherwise. Just the whole rack & pinion assembly?

Thanks!

I guess they aren't that bad to do, a new rack should come with new outer tie rod ends. If not, I would replace them as well. You will need a quart or so of ATF+4 to fill the system with when done as well as an alignment.
