I just saw the Engine Light come on checked the Code P0456-EVAP SYSTEM SMALL LEAK . My question is how critical is this, & should it be attended to ASAP, or can it be driven for a few more days?

Gas cap tight? Drive it for years. The EVAP system traps gas fumes in a charcoal canister while the engine is off. If you have an emissions test coming up you'll have to fix it.

This shows the most common leak areas:

Got the leak fixed within 5 minutes. Problem was a small amount of rust on the filler neck, took some sand paper cleaned it off, the rubber grommet on the cap was still pliable. Sprayed a little grease on the filler neck, problem solved.

listed from common to uncommon:
  • crack in one of the many hoses
  • filler neck or filler cap(despite what internet says gas caps from parts houses work great I use the ones with the lock for $16 instead of getting the Mopar ones(Mopar has a locking gas cap too))
  • valve under radiator support by right headlight
  • charcoal box below drivers

That's all. This can actually be a headache to fix if it's one of the expensive boxes or multiple cracked hoses. Smoke machines are expensive and a lot of shops don't have them so they trial and error at your expense..
