Code p0604

My 2008 grand caravan 3.8 check engine light came on so I checked it and it was code p0604. The van has been running normal, I cleared the code and it hasn't come back yet. I tested the battery/ alternator and the ecm fuse and they all seem to be good. I'm just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this?

Probably random if it has not come back.

Possible causes for this code include:
  • PCM programming error
  • New or incorrect PCM
  • Aftermarket (high-performance) PCM program installed
  • Blown ECM/PCM fuse
  • Low battery voltage or complete battery discharge
  • Bad ECM/PCM power supply relay
  • A defective ECM/PCM
  • Open or shorted wiring or connectors in the CAN harness
  • Insecure control module ground strap or broken ground wire

I have read of people driving around with 600 series codes for years without a problem. Others have problems and have to fix it right away. In the majority of cases the PCM is at fault. That's not to say anything on the probable causes list couldn't be the problem. In your case, since you have no issues other than the CE light and the code coming on once you may be in the lucky group. If it becomes a nuisance consider having it looked at. If it turns out to be a PCM they can be had for $200 - $300 from a remanufacturer. Don't let a dealer talk you into forking over a grand.
