2019 Caravan AC issues. Lemon?
 

Hello. I recently purchased a brand new Caravan. Only had 7 miles. Purchased back in December. 3 weeks ago the compressor started cycling so i took it in. Was told freon was low. Picked up van and next day same thing. Took van back and was told expansion valve was clogged. 2 days later it was fixed. Few days later rear ac wasn't cooling so i took it back. Was told freon was low due to leaking orfice tube. 2 days later it was fixed. Picked up van and the next day the compressor started to cycle again then compressor seized? Took it back and a few days later it was fixed. Picked up van and the next day the rear ac wasnt cooling. 72 degrees at rear vent and 52 degrees at the front. Lemon or what? Van is back at dealer at the moment. Has anyone ever had their vehicle replaced for lemon status? I know what the ac should feel like and after returning the van i sat in a new one on the lot and ac was 44 degrees front and rear. Any advice?

Research lemon laws in your state. They differ from state to state. Keep records of everything. Alternative being, see if the dealer will work with you. Maybe a buyback or trade for another one.

Check your glove box. All manufacturers provide a booklet regarding lemon laws with the owner manual (I can’t recall if they’ll provide state specific or not).

Thanks for all your info but one more question for the experts. Initially i took van in for compressor cycling. After numerous attempts to fix AC system the compressor continues to cycle every 8-10 seconds. I was told this is the way they are designed. Is this true? Any other vehicle i have ever worked on it cycles when its low freon or builds too much pressure. Any info would be helpful.

There’s too many factors to say for certain. Exterior temperature, humidity, air flow thru the condenser, engine speed, and selected settings will all impact how often the clutch cycles.

Also, a system that’s overcharged can cause frequent clutch cycling as well.

When it comes to AC, all operating characteristics are relative to the environment.
