Help me get the wife back on the road

My wife drives a 93 Caravan and it died out of the blue the other day.
I checked for fuel and spark and they are fine but it just cranks and cranks.
Help me please..

First, what motor do you have?

It could be a sensor, such as the camshaft position sensor. Try pulling the codes. You can do this by turning the ignition switch on and off three times in a row and then watching the check engine light flash. The procedure and code identification is outlined in the Haynes manual, although I'm not positive you can do this with your year of vehicle. The codes will help identify if a sensor is not working properly.

You can pick up a Haynes manual at most any parts stores if you don't have one. They are great for helping you fix your vehicle.

the Caravan is a 1993 with a 3.0 motor with 90000 miles.
I dont think I can get the codes that way?

Yes you can get the codes from the check engine light. blink pause blink blink is code 12 for instance.... turn the key off to on 3x and leave on without starting the van to do this....good luck

LOL.... either you essentailly had no codes (12 is start of codes and 55 is end of codes) or you did a battery disconnect very recently before you did this maneuver.

I kinda thought that after looking threw the Chiltons book.
Im gonna try some starter fluid into the intake and see if it tries to fire
but I have a fealing it jumped time.
Do you or any-one know if doing a timing belt is fairly easy enough
for a semi mech. inclined person to do in his back yard?

Thank for any input.

If it runs on starter fluid you probably have a fuel supply problem. Check to see if the fuel pump is working or if the fuel filter is plugged. It could also be plugged/not working injectors.

EGT? Empty Gas Tank? I know it may be overlooked, but sometimes my Chrysler doesn't start, even with 1/4 tank of gas. I'd just say, check the filters (like the previous comment stated) and other fuel related parts. If you get it running, try using some FI (fuel injector) cleaner to clear out the junk in the injectors as well. It can only help in the future.
