Issue with air conditioning/recirculation lights

I recently had problems with battery/cables on a 98 Dodge Grand Caravan. It turned out to be dirty cables as the battery was OK. It acted like the battery was dead and wouldn't take a charge. Anyway, after cleaning cables the battery worked fine. However; the lights within the air conditioning and recirculation buttons continue to flash when the ignition is turned on and also when strarted. They will flash for several minutes until finally you can get them to turn off or on (solid light). But once the vehicle is turned off and then the ignition is turned on the whole process starts over again. Any ideas as to what needs to be done?? I assume it has something to do with the battery/cable issue.

Thanks!

This started at the same time the battery problem came about. I noticed it once that I'd jump started the vehicle after it was completely dead. Yes, the compressor is kicking on and off when pressing the a/c button.

Pretty strange. Any other wiring messed with during your cleaning? Any other symptoms? Sounds like your computer may have something to do with this.

I don't believe there's anything messed up with the wiring. Another thing I took note of this evening. When the above 2 button lights are flashing, their is no indicator light on the rear window defroster?? Again, after about 10 - 15 minutes, whether it's when the vehicle warms up or whatever; the lights will either shut off or be constant as they should. Then the light works on the rear window defroster as well, like it should??? This all started when I was having issues with the battery, appearing to be dead - but turning out to be the cables.

Had a similar issue when my van got into a low power situation. Wasn't to extreme of your issue, but the BCM was confused. On suggestion from the fine folks here, I pulled the BCM fuse for 30 seconds, then re-inserted. Can't hurt to try.

Is that located in with all the other fuses or in a different location??

There is also a controller module for the HVAC controlls. They had a tendency to go bad in the 3rd gen vans. There is a self diagnostic that it can perform, Put Fan on high and with key on (van doesn't have to be running) push the upper left and bottom left buttons for a few secs on the HVAC controlls. All Lights on those buttons will flash and then it will begin a self diagnostic. Thios takes a minute or so as it opens and closes inner dampers and such. When it is done it will blink out a 2 digit code(s) if any using the same leds to report any codes or probs with the HVAC controller. Good luck
